Prof. João Ricardo Dornelles and the "Antifascist Emergencies" Program

In 2020, Professor João Ricardo Dornelles began working in digital media (the "Iaras e Pagus" Channel on YouTube) with the production and organization of several program series: Narrativas Críticas (Critical Narratives - a weekly magazine on political events); Primaveras Europeias (European Springs - on social and political issues in Europe); Pátria Grande (Great Homeland - on social and political issues in Latin America); and Emergência Antifascista (Antifascist Emergency - a program aimed at reflecting on and analyzing the phenomenon of the rise of the far-right in the contemporary world).

 

"Antifascist Emergency" Program

 

The professor was the creator, organizer, presenter, and interviewer of the program, featuring guests from Brazil and Europe. The first series of programs included the participation of academics, politicians, jurists, journalists, human rights activists, artists, etc. The first series featured: Prudente José Silveira de Mello (Lawyer; Visiting Professor of the Master's Program in Human Rights, Interculturality and Development at Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Seville; Professor at Cesusc College, Florianópolis; Counselor of the Ministry of Justice's Amnesty Commission; member of the Joaquín Herrera Flores Institute – Latin America); Elenira Oliveira Vilela (Tenured Mathematics Professor at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Santa Catarina – São José Campus; City Councilor in Florianópolis); Luís Farinha (Graduate in History from the University of Lisbon; PhD in Contemporary Political and Institutional History from Nova University of Lisbon, Researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Nova University of Lisbon; Professor at Odivelas Secondary School, Portugal; Deputy Director of História Magazine, Portugal; former Director of the Aljube Museum – Resistance and Liberty, a Memorial Site in Lisbon); Frederico Mira O´George (Luso-Irish Plastic Artist; photographer; writer; director, author and theater actor); Alysson Leandro Mascaro (Jurist; Professor; author of legal and political books; author of the book "Teoria Crítica do Marxismo" (Critical Theory of Marxism), published by Boitempo in 2022); Jefferson Miola (journalist, Brasil 247 columnist; member of the Institute of Debates, Studies and Alternatives of Porto Alegre (IDEA) and former executive coordinator of the 5th World Social Forum); Orlando Guilhon (Professor; Journalist; PT Activist, Frente Brasil Popular RJ, member of the Fernando Santa Cruz Collective, of the Torcedores e Torcedoras pela Democracia Movement; member of the National Forum for the Democratization of Communication; Contributor to Portal Favelas); Claudia Maria Dadico (Federal Judge with jurisdiction in the State of Santa Catarina; Counselor of the Judges for Democracy Association; Brasil de Fato columnist); Maria Tereza Capra (Professor; Lawyer; City Councilor in São Miguel do Oeste, Santa Catarina); Andrea Trus (History Professor; journalist; presenter at TV 247 and the Brasil 247 news website; founder of the Iaras e Pagus Channel on YouTube).

The activities of the "Antifascist Emergency" Program are articulated with the initiatives of the Joaquín Herrera Flores Institute, as well as with the activities of the Master's Program in Human Rights, Interculturality and Development at Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Seville, and with the Gernika Comunicação - Internationalist Network (Portugal; Ireland; Basque Country, Spain).
